How much does EDL electricity cost per kWh now?
On this page
Short answer
According to an April 2026 press report of an EDL statement, EDL charges USD 0.10 per kWh for the first 100 kWh, USD 0.27 per kWh above[1]. That is the latest figure we found, and it does not come from EDL's own tariff page. On 14 October 2026 a demand to raise the tariff was before the cabinet[2], so check the current rate on edl.gov.lb or with an EDL customer office.

What the April 2026 tariff says
On 1 April 2026, Lebanon24 reported that Electricité du Liban (EDL) said its tariff was unchanged and that no change was being considered[1]. Under that tariff, the first 100 kWh are subsidised at USD 0.10 per kWh. Anything you use above that costs USD 0.27 per kWh.
We did not read a tariff table published by EDL itself. The press report leaves out two things that change your bill: it does not say whether the 100 kWh are counted per month, and it does not mention fixed or subscription charges[1]. So we have not worked out a sample bill.
You can start checking from abroad on EDL's website, edl.gov.lb, or put both questions to an EDL customer office[1]. We have no list of customer office locations, so ask EDL which office covers the property's address. Take a subscription bill or the building's meter-room number with you, because EDL asks for one of these at any visit[5].
Is the tariff about to rise?
It may. On 14 October 2026, Al-Modon reported that a demand to raise the EDL tariff was before the Council of Ministers. The report said that without a response, EDL would import less fuel and supply would go back to 2 to 4 hours a day instead of 6 to 8. It gave no proposed new tariff[2].
The same report put supply at 2 to 4 hours a day (October 2026)[2,3], mainly because high oil prices cut the fuel EDL could buy. Hours vary by day and by area. More on this in how many hours of state electricity Lebanon gets.
EDL is only part of your electricity bill
At the start of 2026, according to LCEC figures reported by The National, private generators supplied 50% of Lebanon's electricity and EDL only 31%[6]. We found no average figure for what households pay each source. The Ministry of Energy and Water sets a guideline generator tariff every month[3,4]. Metered subscribers also pay a fixed monthly part on top of the kWh price: LL385,000 (5 A), LL685,000 (10 A), +LL300,000 per extra 5 A[4].
| Source | Price per kWh | As of |
|---|---|---|
| EDL, first 100 kWh | USD 0.10[1] | 1 April 2026 (press report) |
| EDL, above 100 kWh | USD 0.27[1] | 1 April 2026 (press report) |
| Generator, cities or below 700 m | LL52,840, about USD 0.59 at LL89,700 per USD (our arithmetic)[3,4] | September 2026 guideline |
| Generator, villages or above 700 m | LL58,124[3,4] | September 2026 guideline |
The generator tariff changes every month. Many operators do not meter at all and charge a fixed monthly rate based on your amperage instead[6]. See this month's generator tariff.
Al Jazeera (16 October 2026) reported one Beirut-area household with about 4 hours of EDL a day. It paid USD 140 a month (EDL USD 60 + generator USD 80)[3], so the generator cost it more than EDL. That is one household, not an average. For the full picture, see what electricity costs per month in total.
How to check what you will really pay
- Get a recent EDL bill for the meter. Ask the landlord or seller for one before you sign. You will need it at EDL, and it shows what the flat actually uses.
- Ask the EDL customer office for your area. Bring the bill or the meter-room number[5]. Ask for the current price per kWh, whether the 100 kWh tier is monthly, which fixed charges appear on a bill, and whether any arrears are owed.
- Settle old arrears before you move in. EDL carries out no transaction on a subscription, including a transfer, until the arrears are paid[5]. Agree in writing who pays them, then move the meter into your name.
- Write the split into the lease. If you rent, state who pays EDL, the generator and any arrears. See who pays utilities in a rented flat.
It depends on
- The cabinet's decision. A rise was requested as of 14 October 2026, and no figure was published[2]. Check edl.gov.lb or ask an EDL customer office for the rate on the day you check.
- How much you use. Under the reported tariff, every kWh above the first 100 costs nearly three times as much[1]. The report does not say whether that threshold resets each month, so ask EDL.
- How the generator bills you. A metered bill follows the ministry's tariff; a flat amperage rate does not[6]. Ask the operator before you sign up.
Common questions
Is EDL electricity cheaper than generator power?
Did EDL raise its tariff in October 2026?
We do not know. On 14 October 2026, a demand to raise it was before the Council of Ministers, and no new figure was reported[2]. Check edl.gov.lb or ask an EDL customer office for the current rate.
Does an EDL bill include a fixed or subscription charge?
The April 2026 report that gives the per-kWh prices does not mention fixed charges[1]. Ask an EDL customer office, and bring a bill so they can explain each line.
