What are the OMT, Whish and Western Union limits for receiving money in Lebanon?
On this page
Short answer
We found only a few published limits. Taptap Send says that, as of October 2026, transfers to a Whish wallet are capped at USD 5,000 per transfer and per month[1]. For card holders, OMT's Cash Access withdrawal allows up to USD 5,000 per transaction, 4.5% fee[2]. We could not confirm OMT's inbound transfer limits, Whish's own published limits or Western Union's limits, so ask each provider before sending.

What is published for Whish and MTM
The clearest figures come from the sending app Taptap Send, not from Whish itself. Its help page, dated 8 October 2026, says it pays transfers to Lebanon in US dollars through Whish cash pickup, a Whish mobile wallet or MTM cash pickup[1]. Through Taptap Send, a transfer to Whish is capped at USD 5,000 per transfer and per month, and an MTM cash pickup at USD 9,900 per transfer.
If your recipient needs more than the Whish monthly limit, Taptap Send says they may have to fill in a Whish form and justify the transfer, for example with a sales invoice, a hospital bill or tuition fees[1]. Only the person named on the transfer can collect a Whish cash pickup, with a government photo ID and the 12-digit pickup code. For decimals or small bills the agent may pay the rest in lira at the market rate, and for amounts over USD 200 Taptap Send recommends official Whish, Talaco or IPIN agents.
Fees depend on where you send from. Taptap Send's transfer fee is USD 2 to 20 from the USA[1], depending on the amount (October 2026). From other countries it charges no transfer fee, but a margin is built into its exchange rate. Other apps that pay out through Whish may set their own limits. We did not read Whish's own limits page, and we found no published daily limit.
OMT and Western Union: what we could not confirm
The only OMT limit we found published is for its Cash Access service, on an undated OMT page[2]. Holders of fresh-dollar or international cards request a withdrawal online, then collect the cash at any OMT outlet in Lebanon with an e-voucher and valid ID. This is a card cash-out. It is not OMT's tariff for money sent to you from abroad, and the bank that issued the card may add its own limits.
We found no published OMT limit or fee for incoming transfers. A fee figure for incoming cash dollars circulates online, but we could not confirm it. We also did not read any Western Union limits for Lebanon. Ask OMT, or Western Union and its agent in Lebanon, for the current per-transfer, daily and monthly limits, the fee and the currency they pay out in, and ask them to put the answer in writing.
Why these limits matter if you are buying property
Remittance apps are built for small amounts, and at these limits a property price would take many months to arrive[1]. For larger sums, see ways to send money to Lebanon for a property and how to pay a deposit and balance from abroad.
Money paid before the sale is registered gives you only a claim against the seller, not ownership[3,4]. Under Law 44/2015, notaries, lawyers and brokers apply anti-money-laundering due-diligence duties when they handle property sales[5]. Because of that, ask the notary in advance how they want funds sent in several transfers documented, keep every receipt, and read proof of the source of funds before you split a payment.
If you plan to carry cash instead, Law 42/2015 requires cash above USD 15,000 to be declared in writing to customs. Confirm the current rule with Lebanese Customs before you travel[5]. More in how much cash you can bring into Lebanon.
Before you send money to Lebanon
- Ask for the current limits. Ask the app you send with, or OMT, Whish or Western Union directly, for the per-transfer, daily and monthly limits for your recipient, plus the fee and the payout currency. Terms change, so do not rely on old figures.
- Check the recipient's wallet limit. Through Taptap Send, a Whish wallet is capped at USD 5,000 per transfer and per month[1]. Have the recipient check how much they have already received this month.
- Prepare a justification for larger sums. If the recipient needs more than the monthly limit, Whish may ask for a form and a supporting document such as an invoice[1].
- Collect in person with ID and the code. For a Whish cash pickup, the named recipient brings a government photo ID and the 12-digit code to an agent[1].
- Keep every receipt. Save the transfer confirmation and the pickup receipt. They are your record of what you paid and where it came from.
It depends on
- The app you send with. The Whish and MTM figures here are Taptap Send's (October 2026). Another app, or sending through OMT or Western Union, may have different limits, so ask that provider.
- How the money is paid out. A Whish wallet and an MTM cash pickup have different caps: MTM through Taptap Send allows USD 9,900 per transfer[1].
- Whether you need more than the monthly limit. Whish may ask for a form and a justification[1]. Ask Whish what it accepts.
- Card or transfer. OMT's Cash Access is a card withdrawal with its own cap and fee, and your card's bank may add limits[2]. Ask your bank and OMT.
- What the money is for. For a property payment, the notary and any broker apply due-diligence checks[5]. Ask the notary which proof of funds they will want.
