Short answer

Yes. BDH has three loans for this. A USD renovation loan runs up to USD 50,000 over 7 to 10 years[1] for families with income at most USD 2,000 a month. An LBP renovation loan is up to LBP 2 billion at 7%[2,3]. A construction loan runs up to USD 100,000 over 7 to 18 years[4], but only if you own the land and hold a building permit. All three require Lebanese citizenship held for at least 10 years[5,6].

BDH's rates are "subject to amendment"[1], and the LBP renovation loan was funded by a single release of LBP 300 billion (August 2025)[3,7]. Whether that money remains is not published. This page covers what was published up to 17 October 2026.

Renovating: two loans with different income rules

The USD renovation loan runs from USD 20,000 to USD 50,000 over 7 to 10 years, with a grace period of up to 12 months, at 5.75% a year subject to amendment (APR 6.75%). Those are the terms shown on BDH's undated loan page when we checked it in October 2026[1]. It is for families with net monthly income of at most USD 2,000, and you must own at least 1,800 of the 2,400 shares of the home, which is three quarters of it. The loan may also cover a solar system and a waste-water treatment station.

The purchase loan works the other way round: it needs family income of USD 2,500 to 5,000 a month for the USD 100,000 loan[5,6,8]. More on that in what income BDH asks for.

The LBP renovation loan goes up to LBP 2 billion over 7 to 10 years, with a 3-month grace period, at 7% a year subject to amendment (APR 7.97%), as shown on BDH's undated page in October 2026. It is for families earning LBP 50 million to 200 million net a month, for a main home of up to 150 m²[2,3]. The home may belong to you, your spouse or a child living with you. All your obligations together may not pass 35% of net income, and the instalment may not pass 25%. Life insurance is paid monthly in LBP and home insurance yearly in fresh US dollars.

BDH launched the LBP loan in August 2025. Banque du Liban released LBP 300 billion from BDH's account on 20 August 2025, and applications opened at all BDH branches on 25 August 2025[3,7]. No source says whether funds remain in late 2026, so ask BDH directly before you plan around it.

Building a home on your own land

The construction loan runs from USD 20,000 to USD 100,000 and may not exceed 80% of the bank's guarantee. It lasts 7 to 18 years, with a grace period of up to 24 months, at 5.75% a year subject to amendment (APR 6.36%), as shown on BDH's undated page in October 2026[4]. It follows the purchase loan's citizenship and income rules. BDH publishes no income tiers for loans below USD 100,000, so ask the bank what amount your income supports[5,6,8].

You must already own the land and hold a building permit. The loan finances 150 m², which must be ready to live in when the last withdrawal is made[4]. BDH pays you in stages as the building rises, and only after it holds the title deed and a first-degree mortgage certificate. So the land has to be in your name on paper before any money comes. If you have not started on the permit, read how to get a building permit first.

A home financed by BDH may be used only as the family's home. Breaking this ends the contract and makes the whole loan due at once[5,6].

Solar, shared roofs and war damage

If a renovation loan includes solar, you need approval from the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities and the written approval of 75% of the building's co-owners' committee. For a construction loan with solar, 75% of the property's shareholders must approve[1,2,4]. The number of co-owners in your building decides how many signatures you need, so start collecting them early. BDH's own pages tie the 75% rule to the solar option, though earlier summaries described it as a general condition. Ask BDH whether it applies to a renovation without solar. See also solar panels on a shared roof.

A waste-water station needs an excavation permit from the authorities[1,2,4].

As of September 2026, BDH was negotiating a separate Qatari USD 100 million facility for war-damaged homes. These were negotiations only, and no terms or dates were published[9]. Until terms appear, the three loans above are the ones on offer.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Get a recent Land Registry extract for the home or land. It shows the owner, mortgages and restrictions on the plot[10,11]. Ask for it by the plot number and real estate district on your deed, plus the section number if it is a flat; the Land Registry office for the district where the property sits can tell you how to request it. More in how to get a Land Registry extract. Check that the shares in your name meet the loan's rule, for example 1,800 shares for the USD renovation loan[1].
  2. Check the other conditions with BDH. BDH's purchase loan page asks that employees can work until age 64 and the self-employed until 70[5,6], and that you have not been blacklisted in the past 10 years. The construction loan follows the purchase loan's citizenship and income rules[4]. Ask BDH whether the age and credit conditions also apply to the loan you want.
  3. Get your permits and approvals first. A construction loan needs your building permit[4]. Solar needs the ministry and co-owner approvals, and a waste-water station needs an excavation permit[1,2,4].
  4. Apply to BDH yourself. BDH takes applications on an online platform open 9:00 to 13:00 on working days[5,7,8]. It does not work through brokers or intermediaries[5,7]. BDH publishes no full document list. Beirut.com reported in June 2025 that applicants submit papers such as the property deed, ownership licence and building or housing permit, depending on the loan[8].
  5. Sign and register the mortgage. The bank pays in stages only after it holds the title deed and a first-degree mortgage certificate[4][1]. Mortgages registered for BDH are exempt from the mortgage filing and release fees[5,6].

It depends on

  • Your income. Up to USD 2,000 a month points to the USD renovation loan[1]. Income in pounds between LBP 50 million and 200 million fits the LBP loan[2,3]. Ask BDH which product your income fits.
  • How much of the home you own. The USD renovation loan needs three quarters of the shares[1]. The LBP loan also accepts a home owned by a spouse or child living with you[2,3].
  • Your building. Solar on a shared building needs 75% of the co-owners in writing[1,2,4]. Work inside a flat may need its own permit; see renovation permits and ask the municipality.
  • Living abroad. BDH is open to expatriates and asks for proof of regular income[5,6]. It does not say which foreign documents it accepts or whether they must be legalised, so ask BDH before applying. More in BDH loans for Lebanese abroad.
  • Funding. Whether LBP renovation money remains[3,7], and the terms of any war-damage facility[9], were not published as of October 2026. Only BDH can tell you.

Common questions

Can I get a BDH renovation loan in Lebanese pounds?

Yes. BDH's LBP renovation loan is up to LBP 2 billion at 7% a year, over 7 to 10 years, for a main home of up to 150 m², as shown on BDH's page in October 2026[2,3]. It was funded by a release of LBP 300 billion in August 2025, and whether funds remain in late 2026 is not published[3,7].

Can a foreigner get a BDH loan to build or renovate?

No. A BDH borrower must have held Lebanese citizenship for at least 10 years, and the same rule appears on the renovation and construction loan pages[5,6].

Can I build a holiday home or a rental with a BDH construction loan?

No. A BDH-financed home may be used only as the family's home, and breaking this makes the whole loan due at once[5,6].

Do I need an agent to get a BDH loan?

No. BDH states that it serves customers directly and works through no intermediaries or brokers, so anyone charging a fee to "get" you a loan is not acting for the bank[5,7].
